Copying tier content (but not structure)
Hello! We have been using ELAN for some time now, but recently restructured our template completely. Is there any quick way to extract the content of one tier and move it to a new tier on another transcript? For instance, tier X is dependent on tier Y in the old template, and would like to transfer the content of tier X to tier Z in the new template, which is dependent on tier W (X and Z are of different linguistic types). We have tried all sorts of methods, including merging transcripts, copying then merging tiers, etc. but nothing works. We've resorted to just duplicating each of the annotations one by one to the new destination tier, but wonder if there is a faster way.
By the way, thanks for an excellent program and for being so willing to respond to our concerns!
Re: Copying tier content (but not structure)
This is difficult to say without having the examples around. Normally I would say that copying tier X and selecting W as the new parent should be the best option. Then rename the copy of X to Z. But constraints have to be applied, so you might lose part or all of your annotations along the way.
If you want you can send one or two example files, with the templates, to me. Then it'll be easier to answer the question whether or not there is a faster way to make these changes.

Ah, I think it's the constraint part that may be the problem. If you could advise, that'd be great. I'd be happy to send you a few files. Thanks!
