Can't create a tier with a parent tier

Hi all,<br>I am trying to add tiers in ELAN under Windows.&nbsp; When I have the Add Tier window open and Parent Tier set to 'none' the Add button is fine, however when I select any tier to set as the Parent Tier, the Add button is greyed out and I can't create the tier.<br><br>Am I missing something crucial here?<br><br><br>Thanks<br><br>Regards<br>Stuart<br>

By default there is only one Linguistic Type defined, that can be used for tiers without a parent. If you want to create tiers with a parent, you first have to define Linguistic Types with other Stereotypes than "None". If you then select a parent tier in the Add Tier window, suitable linguistic types will be listed in the Linguistic Type box and the Add button will be activated. The kind of linguistic types you're gonna define depends on what you wish to record on the depending tier (see the manual chapters 5.1 (http://www.lat-mpi.eu/tools/elan/manual/ch05s01.html) and 5.3.2 (http://www.lat-mpi.eu/tools/elan/manual/ch05s03s02.html)).
