Viewing selection in Praat with annotations/text

I can view a 'search selection in Praat (e.g. in order to do phonetic acoustic analysis), but the associated ELAN annotations were not shown in the Praat window (i.e. the text). I can only see a spectrogram and a waveform but no text. Is there a way to pull over both the selection (waveform) and it's associated annotations?

It is true that you only see a spectogram and a waveform when opening a selection in Praat. I don't know whether it is possible to open a TextGrid at the same time, but if it is, I'm quite sure that one first would have to export the annotations from ELAN to a Praat TextGrid file and that the name (or path) of this file should be passed to the script. So, that is all quite complicated.

It is possible to import Praat TextGrid files and also to export ELAN tiers to a TextGrid file. So currently that would be the way to proceed: export the relevant tiers to a TextGrid file and open it in Praat. You can then see the annotations plus spectogram etc. in Praat, but you don't have this direct ELAN-Praat interactivity.

Many thanks for this information and your very prompt reply - that's very useful to know. I did manage to get onto the forum as you mentioned, so I will post directly to that in future should I need any support.

Do you also know if Praat-ELAN interactivity will be improved in future versions of the programme as it would certainly speed up the analysis process particularly if researchers are looking at hundreds of tokens like myself? It seems cumbersome to save individual ELAN tiers for search results and then have to export them individually to Praat.

We could investigate the possibility of an on-the-fly export of (the selected portion of) the active tier and/or the tier containing the active annotation to a scratch TextGrid file and open that together with the wav file in Praat. I don't know if that would work satisfactorily.
Any tighter integration than that will depend on available resources (manpower).
