problem with importing .cha files

When I import the .cha files written in Unicode Chinese, ELAN can't show the language correctly. But there is no problem when I import .txt files.
Can anybody tell me the solution ?

Do the .cha files start with "@UTF8"? If not, ELAN doesn't read the files as utf-8 files.
In anyaway: as an alternative to the import function in ELAN you could try the "chat2elan" command from the clan tools. That might produce better results.
