Recording and transcribing multiple mics
I'm trying to figure out the best way to build an audio corpus that is recorded with multiple microphones and then transcribed both textually and phonetically.

Let's say I have a script with a few dozen lines. Ideally I'd be able to look at a line that I'm supposed to be hearing, and time-align the transcription, and then add in the phonetic transcription.

I need to record from multiple microphones, so I assume I would need some kind of mixing hardware? I'd like to option of using windows or a mac to do the field recording. Would something like the M-Audio MobilePre USB work for this? Can I do this directly into Elan, or do I need to record this first in another program? Can Elan handle two different microphones recording to different channels?

Thanks.
Re: Recording and transcribing multiple mics
I don't know the M-Audio MobilePre or similar hardware, but it will not be possible to manage the recording process from within ELAN. ELAN requires one or more pre-recorded audio or video file(s).
It is possible to associate more than one audio file with a transcription document, but you will hear and see only one at a time, namely the first in the list. Through Edit -> Linked Files... one can switch between the audio files, but that is not very convenient if you want to switch regularly.
So, in order to hear both recordings in ELAN it is inevitable to mix them, either using special hardware or by combining them with some software mixer.
