saving a selection as .eaf project - why whole video?

Posted by mesciubba at 2008-07-17 19:31

Hi, when saving a selection as .eaf project, the new project will have the whole video and not just the part of the video corrisponding to the selection saved. Is this normal, or it's some setting I missed?

Thank you :)

In the current situation this is "normal" behavior; it is assumed that the video is clipped (if necessary) in another application. ELAN is not an audio or video editing application, so it will not clip a video itself.
There is however an option to create a clip based on a selection in ELAN if you have M2-edit installed (for audio a clip can be created with Praat). So, it is now a 3-step process: save a selection as eaf, create a clip (with m2-edit, Praat or otherwise) and adjust the link to the media file through Edit -> Linked Files.

M2-edit is a commercial, Windows-only application. We are looking for an alternative that is free and multi-platform. And we plan to extend the "save selection as" option to include the possibility to create clips and update the media links in the new .eaf in a single operation.
