wmv videos in ELAN 2.6.3

Posted by jbressem at 2007-09-06 16:14

Hello,

unfortunately I have problems playing wmv videos in ELAN 2.6.3. I was able to use the videos in the 2.6.3 version but now after installing the new version of ELAN (3.1.0) the 2.6.3 version cannot handle the videos anymore. It plays the video file, but I'm not able to go through the video frame by frame. Sometimes a selection is also played in high speed. I've installed lower versions of the media player but the problem still remains. Do you have any ideas what I can do to resolve the problem?

Thanks a lot
Jana

When a new version of ELAN is installed on Windows, there are files copied to the install folder and an attempt is made to associate eaf files with the new ELAN in the Windows registry. More changes to the system than that, should not occur. Un-installing through the un-install application should remove everything.
So, I find it hard to imagine that ELAN 3.x could impact the media playback in ELAN 2.6.3. I couldn't explain it anyway. Hasn't anything else been changed on the system?

No, unfortunately nothing else has been changed. The strange thing is also that it works fine on other PCs (even older ones) on which both versions are installed. Could there be something "wrong" with the Java application? Could changing a particular option or something alike in Java resolve the problem?

Thanks a lot

Each ELAN installation comes with it's own Java environment. It seems unlikely that there's something wrong in that area. The different behavior on different PC's is more likely to be explained by e.g. installed codecs (or anything else in the media player framework).
Are there codecs installed on this one systems that are not present on the others?
