installing ELAN under debian linux: insufficient rights to install RPMSpecs
Hello,
I have installed ELAN 3.1 under debian linux as a normal user, without root priviliges. I am able to start ELAN and annotate videos. However, I have some probelms with videos (format: xvid avi) when we want to skip frame by frame. quite often, the a skip forward results in the display of a previously shown frame.
also tried a video with a lower bitrate between 4000 and 5000, as suggested elsewhere in the forum. same result.
I wonder if the problem might be related to the following error during installation:
RPMSpecFile
Status: WARNING
Additional Notes: WARNING - You have insufficient permissions to install this RPM package. Please try running as super-user.
Best wishes
Henning
Re: installing ELAN under debian linux: insufficient rights to install RPMSpecs
It seems very unlikely that the RPM warning has anything to do with the frame inaccuracy. It is not necessary that the application is registered with a RPM package manager; ELAN can be installed and uninstalled without that.
It is more likely that the format of the videos causes the problems. Is the same thing happening with regular mpeg-1 files (try e.g. one of the example files of the download page)?
