Problem with exporting QTfiles or SMIL

Posted by jjacquin at 2007-08-06 10:49

Good morning and firstable, thank you very much for this programm !

I would like to export a video from ELAN with subtitles but I have some problems.
My configuration : MacbookPro, 10.4.10,QuicktimePro 7.2.0
For SMIL files, after the choose of the tier I want to export and the location of the save, I recieve always an error message like : (TransformerException:java.io.FileNotFoundException:file:XXXXXXXXXXXXXX/XXX/XXXX.smil (no such file or directory)).
For QuicktimeFile : it works perfectly when I choose to export just one tier, but if I put two or more tiers, QT can't open the file and displays something like : "lenght of the sequence is uncorrect".
Could you help me to find a solution ? I really nead those export possibilities.
Thank you for your help.
JJ

I don't seem to be able to reproduce the TransformerException on my 10.3.9 system. Is there anything special with the filepath to the export smil file, like special characters (since it is in fact a "file not found" problem)? The same occurs when you export to your home folder?
SMIL on Mac is a bit problematic anyway: QuickTime seems to need its own smil markup and both QT and Real Player have problems with mpg files in a SMIL presentation.
There seems to be a bug in the current QuickTime Text export: in previous versions it was only possible to select a single tier per export. I believe there should only be one QTText track in a file, so either multiple files should be created (that then have to be combined with e.g. Final Cut Pro, or QT Pro) or the annotations of the selected tiers should be merged into 1 track(?).
This first option you can mimic by just selecting one tier per export action and repeat that for each tier that should be in the presentation.

Maybe an export format should be added for DVD subtitles? Is there a standard for that?

I tried a lot of different filepaths on two different computers (but both Macintel with 10.4) and no SMIL files anywhere : always the same error... I don't understand why the software don't find the filepath because I choosed what it purposes to me...

Concerning QTfiles, I tried, before wrinting my first post, your solution (one track after the other), but it doesn't work because each "frame" is put on the previous one : the black area at the top displays only the last "past".

I own QTpro and you talked about a solution (in FileCut Pro too ?)). Maybe in Imovie too ?
Thanks !
