How can I isolate one of the channels so that I can listen to it on its own?<br>

This is certainly not possible within ELAN. The only way to achieve something like that, I suppose, is to use the media framework's controls (e.g. QuickTime's Balance control) or the operating systems audio mixer balance control. But I'm not sure if this actually the same as listening to one channel.
