neverending initialization (Mac)

A few days ago i installed the latest Mac OS 10.4.10 Quicktime update (7.2) and now ELAN gets stuck on initialization, including with all media files which previously worked fine. This occurred both with Elan 3.0 and 3.1. (I'm running this on a non-intel, powerbook G4).

Any suggestions? cheers.

There have been several reports on the internet about applications being broke by the 7.2 update of QuickTime. I don't know yet what exactly is the problem and which systems are effected. It could be that a necessary library, QuickTime for Java, can no longer be found or be accessed.
To get an idea about the source of the problem you might have a look in the ELAN log file (after trying to open a file and then quitting ELAN).

Open a Terminal window and do:
cd .elan_data
ls -al
locate the most recent elan.log (elan0.log or elan1.log) and then:
cat elan0.log (or elan1.log)

If there are clear error messages you can post them here, otherwise please copy the complete output and mail it to me.

I have the same problem. It worked before I upgraded the Quick Time. I also have trouble finding the log file.

Han, I got the log file. There seems to be an error message "Exception in thread "AWT-EventQueue-0" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: quicktime/internal/jdirect/Linker". If you need the complete output file, could you tell me where I can send it? Thanks!

I had the same problem. I just downloaded and manually reinstalled the latest QuickTime from here:

http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/quicktime72formac.html

And now everything seems to be working.
