There have been several reports on the internet about applications being broke by the 7.2 update of QuickTime. I don't know yet what exactly is the problem and which systems are effected. It could be that a necessary library, QuickTime for Java, can no longer be found or be accessed.
To get an idea about the source of the problem you might have a look in the ELAN log file (after trying to open a file and then quitting ELAN).

Open a Terminal window and do:
cd .elan_data
ls -al
locate the most recent elan.log (elan0.log or elan1.log) and then:
cat elan0.log (or elan1.log)

If there are clear error messages you can post them here, otherwise please copy the complete output and mail it to me.

I have the same problem. It worked before I upgraded the Quick Time. I also have trouble finding the log file. <br>

Han, I got the log file. There seems to be an error message "Exception in thread "AWT-EventQueue-0" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: quicktime/internal/jdirect/Linker".  If you need the complete output file, could you  tell  me where I can send it? Thanks!

I had the same problem. I just downloaded and manually reinstalled the latest QuickTime from here:

And now everything seems to be working.

I have recently installed the Quicktime 7.3 update on my Mac Powerbook G4 (10.3.9), and now have the problem described here. <br><br>I've tried to go back to Quicktime 7.2, first deleting&nbsp; 7.3 from my applications folder, and then downloading Quicktime 7.2. Only, the installer for 7.2 finds traces of 7.3 on my computer and won't re-install 7.2 <br><br>Any tips on how to overcome this installation issue? Any thoughts about whether this may solve the neverending initialization issue?<br><br>Cheers.<br>
