Linking tiers

Posted by amybid at 2007-07-18 11:56

ELAN won't allow me to make any of my tiers the parent of an other tier, even when I am first creating the file. I have followed the instructions in the manual, but it won't allow me to go past the 'select another linguistics type' screen. Is there another way I can link the separate tiers? Also, will this allow me to print off the file with the input on 2 lines directly underneath each other?<br>

Are you sure you have created Linguistic Types with an other "Stereotype" than None? Before you can create any tier with a parent tier (i.e. as dependent tier) you'll have to have other Linguistic Types defined. These Linguistic Types determine the kind of relationship between annotations on the parent and those on the child tier.
This should indeed enable you to print the tiers on 2 lines directly underneath eachother (and still have a white line between "blocks").

Thanks - my problem was that I didn't change the 'stereotype' when creating the new linguistic type.<br>
