Sound but no visible sound wave

Posted by Semo at 2007-07-10 08:17

Hi there,
It seems that any .wav files I've recorded on my marantz MD 660 solid state recorder are audible in Elan, but not visible. I am using the same .etf template as for other .wav files that have worked fine, I've been able to see them. All the files where I can see the sound wave were recorded on an MD recorder, and all the solid state recorder files I've tried are invisible. It not that it's very low volume, as I've looked at amplifying the wave by dragging the window wider, vertically.
Any clues? Will be most grateful.

Hi,

What is the sampling and bit rate of these WAV files? Your problem might be due to non-standard recording parameters.

best,
Dieter
The sampling rate is 48000Hz, and the bit rate is 32 bit float. The recording format on the Marantz is PCM-44.1kHz.

Hi,
I think the problem is the 32-bits bit rate. The ELAN manual states that only 8, 16 and 24 bits .wav files are supported by the waveform viewer. Do you really need 32 bit quality? Otherwise you could downsample the file to e.g. 24 bit stereo.
