hi, how can you change the setting from an American keyboard to a European/German keyboard? marsha

For tiers that have as their 'Default Language' value the system's default language (as defined in Regional or Language settings), it is possible to use the, system specific, ways to switch between installed keyboard layouts.
With such tiers it is also possible to use utilities like Keyman to provide alternative layouts.

hi, curiously elan changes my keyboard layout to Am, although i have a Ger/Eur keyboard layout (it can drive you nuts to search for keys because the keyboard's different)

When editing an annotation ELAN tries to temporarely set the language to the preferred language of the tier (as defined by the Default Language property of the tier). Is English perhaps the default language of the tier? Is German the systems default language?
What operating system is it.

hi, the system is windows xp and the language german, the tier language is german too (its german material i recorded for the project). don't have any problems with the keyboard in any of my programmes, only in ELAN the keys work differently. glad i found out that it was an American keyboard layout, now i have a Am keyboard printout ready whenever i use ELAN. never heard of this problem before? me neither... with ELAN 2.6.3 it worked!

ah i got it!!
ok, you need to activate German (though it says "system default"), or Russian/ipa/sampa etc. each time you start typing in your annotation by pressing the right mouse button -- otherwise the programme uses the American key setup. odd...

Strange, this is not the way it is supposed to be. I have seen it working on an English OS with Swedish keyboard without problem. Is the German keyboard also installed for English? In Control Panel Regional and Language Settings -> Language -> Details -> Settings -> Installed Services. It should be possible to add the German keyboard for English (and make it the default) as well.

What about setting the Language to XYZ Sign with a font of its own? How can that be done?
