Installing Arbil

Posted by drosenblum at 2009-11-08 23:05
I have been unable to install Arbil. When I download the application and get the following message in a window titled 'Application Error' "Unable to launch the application", with a red stop sign/exclamation point. If I click on the details tab, I get the following in a window titled 'More information' "Error: The following required field is missing from the launch file: And in the text window under two tabs [saying 'Launch File' and 'Exception'], the code pasted below. Any suggestions? (I am not at Berkeley; I was briefly there this summer and first tried to install Arbil there, but have encountered this message no matter where I am.) Thanks for any suggestions! Which operating system are you using? I have just tested the url that you pasted in your message and have not seen any errors on windows, ubuntu or mac. The error that you pasted looks like it has come from the a proxy server "Error produced on proxy4.lib.berkeley.edu". So I wonder if your network is allowing java web start applications, you could test this with a simple java web start demo: http://java.sun.com/javase/technologies/desktop/javawebstart/apps/notepad.jnlp
If you have the same error with that link then I would expect it is network configuration issue. Please let me know the outcome and we can look at other solutions.

There are now Arbil installers for Windows, Mac and Debian which should overcome similar issues caused by proxy servers blocking java webstart.<br>
