Version 1.9

Tobias van Valkenhoef
May 2011

The LAT suite covers the set of software tools that are being developed by the development group at the MPI for Psycholinguistics. This note describes the LAT deployment package (LAT-DP) that allows interested users to install the LAT suite on their servers.

The deployment package covers the following components:

  • IMDI metadata framework (browsing, searching)
  • LAMUS and AMS2 (archive and access managing system)
  • ANNEX annotation viewer including Flash Pseudo Streaming server
  • TROVA annotation search tool
  • IMEX image viewer

The LAT deployment package

  • is ideal for testing or giving presentations
  • comes with low system requirements and a manageable download size.
  • is based on an custom made embedded Linux with an Apache web server,
  • includes a Postgresql database server, an Openldap server and Apache Tomcat instances containing the MPI for Psycholinguistics built language tools all wrapped up in a VMware image

System requirements for running the LAT suite:

  • A system capable of running Vmware Player, Vmware Server, Esx Server 3 or Vmware Fusion with at least 512 Mb of free memory for the demoserver guest image and 1 GB of free disk space.

Installation Manual:

  • Download the demoserver.zip file: http://www.mpi.nl/tools/latserver/demoserver.zip (299MB)
  • Unzip the file in the folder where you want to store your virtual machines.
  • Start the Vmware console (or similar) and choose “open virtual machine”, browse to the demoserver.vmx file in the demoserver folder, and boot the machine.
  • When finished booting take the assigned guest ipaddress as shown in the guest startup screen and add the following line to the host-machine's hosts file:
    • “<ipaddress of guest> demoserver.gov.is demoserver”
(in windows c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts, on unix /etc/hosts)
  • You can now use your browser to reach the lat server: http://demoserver.gov.is Or for LAMUS: http://demoserver.gov.is/jkc/lamus
  • Initial corpman password for both the lat applications as the Linux corpman user is “demo”.
  • When superuser access is needed on Linux the root password is “demoserver”.

Version2 will also contain the OAI PMH metadata gateway.

This distribution can also be adapted for use in a production environment with some adaptations;
adding more disk space for a big corpus and database, changing the host and domain name to something appropriate for your site by using DNS-servers and using bridged networking for direct access to the lat server on the entire network.
In case that using VMWare is not an option for your site, then a native installation directly on Linux is required. Such an installation is much dependent on configuration parameters so that an interaction with Tobias van Valkenhoef is recommended.
